Cervical Neuroma Presenting as a Subarachnoid Hemorrhage: Case Report

OBJECTIVE AND IMPORTANCE: The association of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) with spinal lesions is well known, but hemorrhage from a cervical schwannoma is exceedingly rare. The histopathology and the mechanism of bleeding are discussed. CLINICAL PRESENTATION: We report a healthy 37-year-old man presenting with SAH after intense physical stress caused by bleeding of a cervical neuroma. INTERVENTION: A C6-T1 laminectomy disclosed an ovoid lesion, 4 cm in diameter; extremely dilated veins originated from the tumor. Management of intralabyrinthine schwannomas

Abstract Objectives Our protocol to manage the intralabyrinthine schwannoma (ILS). Methods Retrospective chart review of 7 consecutive patients managed for ILS. Results Five patients underwent surgical removal of the lesions and none experienced significant complications or recurrent disease. One patient refused surgical treatment and was closely followed by serial MRI scans with no signs of tumor growth. One patient is presently managed conservatively due to a good hearing. Conclusions Diagnosis of ILS is based on high resolution MRI scans and should be included in the differential diagnosis of patients investigated for cochleovestibular symptoms. The very rapid worldwide increase in mobile phone use in the last decade has generated considerable interest in the possible health effects of exposure to radio frequency (RF) fields. A multinational case-control study, INTERPHONE, was set-up to investigate whether mobile phone use increases the risk of cancer and, more specifically, whether the RF fields emitted by mobile phones are carcinogenic. The study focused on tumours arising in the tissues most exposed to RF fields from mobile phones: glioma, meningioma, acoustic neurinoma and parotid gland tumours.
